Abstract

The complexity of the self-harm behavior hinders understanding of this phenomenon and the motivation of the person. Impulsivity is the most described risk factor (Ferraz et al, 2009). Other social and psychological factors are also described; anxio-depressive disorders, history of physical or sexual abuse, parental relationship problems, unemployment. This phenomenon represents for some authors a suicidal risk factor. We will conduct a prospective study using the analysis of the questionnaires of people with self-inflicted injuries received in the medico legal consultation of the University Hospital of Sidi Bel Abbes.(ALGERIA). This study will run from 01.03.2017 to 28.02.2019. Impulsivity was measured by Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11). The suicidal potential was evaluated by the tool: Risk-Emergency-Dangerousness.

We received 6638 persons whose 02% with self-inflicted injuries. The Sexe ratio is 02M/F. The maximum age was 69 years old. The median was 29 years old. People had confessed to self-assault (66%) and (34%) denied.

Impulsivity levels was: normal (67%). The distribution social and psychological risk factors found: history of abuse (11%), separation/family abandonment (20%), lack of family cohesion (28%), economic difficulty (19%), depression (05%) ), psychosis (01%), addiction (02%), alcoholism (05%). The suicidal risk was low (92%).

Risk factors do not present the majority of cases. Simulation was the fundamental motivation whose motive was: to avenge a person or institution, to simulate defense injuries or to cover their own attacks against others, to have compassion and attention. However, faced with such a situation it is necessary to resort to a rigorous psychiatric expertise.
